Gemotions

“Another successful day,” John muttered to himself as he locked up his bike. The air was crisp, the sky a beautiful shade of blue after a long day of classes. He was proud of the work he had accomplished. The future was bright, and he had a plan. He was looking forward to a relaxing evening.

He stopped, momentarily, to check his messages on his phone. The scholarship committee had sent an email.

John stared at his phone, a strange feeling creeping through his body. His hands tightened into fists. He felt the blood pounding in his ears. The feeling of the setting sun on his skin no longer comforted him; instead, it felt like a burning shame.
